 About
Valerie Smith
Valerie is a Reporter, Staff Writer,
Photographer and Public Relations person. She attends motorcycle events
all across the nation and has traveled as far as Hawaii for a story. Just
last August she interviewed world renowned photographer (for Easy Rider and
others) Michael Lichter in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Valerie grew up in Nashville, Tennessee where her father Carl Armstrong
dabbled in the music industry and was a promoter of sorts introducing new talent
to the music community. Brenda Lee, Tommy Cash, David Allen Coe, Waylon
Jennings, Pork Chop Markham (drummer for Conway Twitty) and Jim Garstang (piano
player for Mel Tillis) and Charlie Daniels were some of her friends and family
while growing up in Music City. Her father was seen on the Ralph Emory
Morning Show and a long time friend to some of the band members. Val wishes her
Dad could have seen her success with Born To Ride but left us in 1996. Her
roots are still in Nashville and just last August she was on stage there with up
and coming musical talent.
She began playing drums in an all girl band at age
12 and continued all through school. She worked with blind children after
graduating with a Teaching Degree and sang in a Gospel Trio. She gave up
music when she married and moved south to Ocala, Florida. She went
into Dentistry, attending The UF School of Dentistry's Expanded Functions
Program and taught a Dental Assisting Program in Ocala for Three Years while
managing a private dental practice. But, music was still her love so she
began to sing back up in a Rock and Blues band and raised money for children
with cancer.
A life change forced her to move to Tampa in 2003 where her new life
began. She came to Tampa and worked with Born to Ride TV & Magazine for over 4
years as a photographer, writer and TV interviewer. Having always struggled with
her weight (at one time being over 292 pounds), it was her goal to become a new
person. With diet and exercise she dropped from a size 24 to a size 4 and was
fortunate enough to be the Page 3 Girl for R and R Cycles in June 2007 in Born
to Ride Magazine See pic Click Here This woman has given new meaning to the phrase "Doing Well Is The
Best Revenge". This is also the title of her book soon to be released by a
local media source. Drop her an e-mail at Valerie@RiderNowMag.com for more details.
If you are in the Tampa Bay area check out the Slicks
Scooter Schedule for where she will be shooting next and

story of how you overcame a life crisis. Stay tuned to this website, there
